Rwanda Peace Academy in conjunction with US AFRICOM to hold a Three-day Workshop on Environmental Security on 21st – 23rd June 2011 at Nyakinama, Musanze
The Rwanda Peace Academy in conjunction with the United States Africa Command(AFRICOM) Environment Security (ENSEC) Program will be conducting a three-day workshop on Environmental Security beginning tomorrow, 21st to 23rd June 2011.
The workshop on “Environmental Security” will mainly focus on sustainable waste management, contaminated land and un-exploded ordinance, site investigation and cleanup. This will include capacity building in inter-agency and cross-organizational collaboration on environmental security, including planning and execution of environmental and engineering aspects of various Military Operations and Peacekeeping Operations. Another objective will be aimed at standardization and compliance with international environmental practices, laws, guidance and standards, and implication of various international laws and agreements.
Participants at the workshop will be drawn from the Nation Bureau of Standards (NBS), the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Refugees and Disaster Preparedness, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internal Security, Kigali City Council, Rwanda Environmental Management Authority (REMA), Rwanda National police and the Rwanda Defence Forces.
It is expected the workshop will equip the participants with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively address environmental security challenges, either collectively or organizationally, in their various fields of work.
The opening ceremony for the workshop will be at O900 hrs on 21st June 2011 at RMA Nyakinama.
