Project on enhancing the Strengthening the Capacities of the Rwanda Peace Academy
1. UN/AU Staff Officer Course
The “UN/AU Staff Officer Course” was conducted from 20th-31st July 2015. The course brought together 24 participants all of them Military Officers from eight countries namely; Burundi, Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. The course was attended by seven females equivalent to 29%.
2. Peace Support Operations (PSO) Logistic Course
The “Peace Support Operations (PSO) Logistic Course” was conducted from 31st August-11th September 2015. The course brought together 32 participants, from seven countries namely; Burundi, Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. It was an integrated course composed by 17 military, 05 police and 10 civilians’ officers. The course was attended by five females equivalent to 15.6%.
3. Understanding Conflict and Conflict Analysis Course
The “Understanding Conflict and Conflict Analysis Course”, was conducted from 30th November – 04th December 2015. Thirty six participants from seven countries namely; Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda attended the course. The course participants comprised 10 Military, 4 Police and 22 Civilians Officers. The course was attended by 15 females equivalent to 42%.
4. Protection of Civilians in Peace Support Operations Course
The “Protection of Civilians in Peace Support Operations Course”, was conducted from 14th – 18th December 2015. Thirty two participants from six countries namely; Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda attended the course. The course participants comprised 8 military, 4 police and 20 civilians Officers. The course was attended by 15 females equivalent to 47%.
5. Personnel Safety and Security Course
The “Personnel Safety and Security Course” was conducted from 22nd- 26th February 2016. Twenty nine participants from six countries namely; Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda attended the course. The course participants comprised 7 military, 3 police and 19 civilians’ officers. The course was attended by 12 females equivalent to 41%.
6. International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Law of Armed Conflict Course
The “International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Law of Armed Conflict Course” was conducted from 02nd- 06th May 2016. Twenty five participants from six countries namely; Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan and Uganda attended the course. The course participants comprised 11 military, 3 police and 11 civilians’ officers. The course was attended by 11 females equivalent to 44%
7. Gender in Peace Support Operations Course I
The “Gender in Peace Support Operations Course” was conducted from 23rd- 27th May 2016. Forty participants from seven countries namely Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Uganda attended the course. The participants comprised 11 military, 4 police and 25 civilian officers. The course was attended by 22 Females equivalent to 55%.
8. Gender in Peace Support Operations Course II
The “Gender in Peace Support Operations Course” was conducted from 06th- 10th February 2017. Thirty five participants from seven countries namely Comoros, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, and Uganda as well as Central Africa Republic attended the course. The participants comprised 11 military, 8 police and 16 civilian officers. The course was attended by 19 Females equivalent to 54%.
