Regional Lead Trainers Course on Prevention of Recruitment and Use of Children in Armed Violence Opens at the Rwanda Peace Academy

The Regional Lead Trainers Course on Prevention of Recruitment and Use of Children in Armed Violence, started today at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) training facility in Musanze and will run up to 29 September 2023.
The course is jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence, the Rwanda Defence Force, the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security, and the Rwanda Peace Academy.
The one-week course will be attended by a total of twenty military, police and civilian personnel including the Dallaire Institute staff and consultants from seven African countries, namely: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Uganda.
The aim of the training is to prepare military, police and civilian personnel qualified by the Dallaire Institute as trainers to lead the Dallaire courses on prevention of recruitment and use of children within their respective institutions and elsewhere.
Present at the opening ceremony were: the Director for the Dallaire Institute-Africa Centre of Excellence, Maj Gen (Rtd) Ferdinand Safari and the Director of the Rwanda Peace Academy, Colonel (Rtd) Jill Rutaremara. Maj Gen (Rtd) Safari presided over the opening ceremony.
