Rwanda Peace Academy conducts UN pre-deployment training of female corrections Officers

The United Nations pre-deployment training workshop for 20 women Officers of the Correctional Services has been offially opened today on 8 September 2014, at Rwanda Peace Academy in Musanze District by the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services, Paul Rwarakabije.

In his opening remarks, the Commissioner General of Rwanda Correctional Services said “the training is significant opportunity to increase knowledge and skills our female corrections officers in the area of peacekeeping operations to answer the need for more female corrections officers to be deployed in UN field missions.”

In the opening ceremony, One UN Resident Coordinator, Lamin Manneh underlined that the training workshop would add value to UN Peace Keeping Missions and that choosing Rwanda to host the training reflects “how the world perceives Rwanda as a strong contributor to peace and security and as a champion in promoting and sustaining gender equality gains”.

He further reiterated that “with its experience in peace keeping missions, combined with the high level of integrity of its security organs including corrections services, Rwanda has a lot to share…”

The two week training workshop  brings together participants from Sweden, Finland, and Rwanda the Host Nation.
