Senior Mission Leaders (SML) Course: RPA jointly with the United Nations Integrated Training Service (ITS/DPET/DPKO) organized the SML Course. SML is the highest course in UN system. Participants in this course were military on the rank of General, the equivalent in Police and Civilian of the same caliber (Ambassadors). The course has been conducted at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda, from 21^st May to 1^st June 2012. The Guest of Honor during the Opening Ceremony was the Right Hon Prime Minister, Dr Pierre Damien Habumuremyi. The SML Course was organized concurrently with MILOBS Course. The only difference was the venue: While MILOBS Course was organized in Nyakinama-Musanze, SML was conducted in Kigali-City. Course Objectives:

a. To further develop United Nations Senior Leadership capabilities and increase the number of trained leaders available for DPKO missions;

b. To provide participants with an understanding of the importance of working, with Cooperation, Coordination, Communication, Consensus and Integration for effective functioning of the Mission Leadership Team (MLT), with UN System, UN Agencies and Local Community;

c. To provide participants with an awareness and understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the various components of complex peacekeeping operations;

d. To provide participants with an understanding of the responsibilities and roles of the Mission Leadership Team to effectively lead personnel employed in peacekeeping operations,

e. To provide participants with an understanding of the importance of addressing Gender issues and the implementation of the Security Council Resolution 1325 through sound leadership and administration.

Course Outcome: At the end of the course, participants were prepared for UN Senior Missions Leadership in multidimensional peacekeeping operations.
