Women’s Leadership for Peace Course Opens at the Rwanda Peace Academy

Musanze – 4 December 2023

The Women’s Leadership for Peace Course commenced today at the Rwanda Peace Academy (RPA) in Musanze and will run up to 8 December 2023. The course is organised in partnership between the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Senior Women Talent Pipeline (SWTP) under the United Nations (UN), the International Organisation of Francophonie (OIF), and the Rwanda Peace Academy. Nineteen Senior Women Talent Pipeline members from 17 countries will attend the training.

The course will be delivered in French and its overall objective is to increase the representation, and meaningful participation of women in leadership roles in francophonie UN peace operations.

The Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Hon. Dr. Valentine Uwamariya officially opened the course. Present at the opening ceremony were: the Director of the Rwanda Peace Academy Colonel (Rtd) Jill Rutaremara; the Strategic Planning and Resident Coordinator’s Office Team Leader Ms. Josephine Marealle-Ulimwengu; the representative of Senior Women Talent Pipeline Mr. Leonard Otti and the representative of UNITAR Ms. Svenja Vollmer Nicole.

The Senior Women Talent Pipeline consists of an internationally diverse pool of senior women leaders with expertise in 5 job families: political affairs, civil affairs, rule of law and security, public information, and mission support.
